Moe Marks, Artist House: A Retrospective
Artist House is a retrospective featuring a selection of mixed-media artworks created over the past two decades by self-taught Hoosier artist, Moe Marks. On view at The Lodge, formerly Studio 101 on the square in Downtown Bloomington, this exhibition boasts over 30 works, mostly large format, created on wooden supports using media such as paint, fabric, metal, paper, plastic, and found objects.
The works, created between 1999 and 2019, reflect Marks’s interest in finding a nostalgic sympathy in using a range of formal qualities, symbols, and old materials. By combining and layering these various components, he elicits and presents something new and current.
Although a self-proclaimed recluse or outsider, Marks has held exhibitions in South Bend, IN and Asheville, NC. He is a three-time recipient of the “Best of Show” award at the annual Juried Regional Exhibition at the Midwest Museum of American Art in Elkhart, IN.
